As a sequel to The Legend of the White Snake: The Origin ( white snake 2 the tribulation of green snake ) it continues the worldview and characterisation of its predecessor, beginning with the story of the Aquatic Golden Temple several years after the main plot line of the first film. To tell the new story, it completely overturns the emotional line established in the first film of the White Snake and Xu Xuan as soul mates, defining the end of the previous film's emotional line as a false and hypocritical beginning to the story.

The story begins with Xiao Qing and Xiao Bai fighting with Fa Hai at the Temple of the Golden Mountain to save Xu Xuan, who has been reincarnated as Xu Xian. Xiao Bai is then sent to Hangzhou by Fa Hai and Xiao Qing is transported to Shura City during the battle. The city is a place of obsession, where people, demons and ghosts each with their own obsessions come here at different times and all must give up their obsessions to escape from here. There are several important gangs in Shura City, namely the Bull Head and Horse Face Gang, the Rakshasa Sect and the neutral supermarket of the former owner of Baoqing Square.

Xiao Qing befriends the reincarnated Xiao Bai, as well as Sun and master Sima of the Rakshasa Clan during his integration into the city and later joins the Rakshasa Clan after Sun is killed by the Bullhead Gang.

 In addition to fighting for supplies, the leader of the Ox-Head Gang has a mission given to him by Fa Hai: to clean up the city of Shura. Several people fled in haste and again found themselves robbed of water.  Reincarnated Xiao Bai was stuck but in an emergency, reincarnated Xiao Bai used his mask to change his appearance to that of the ancient Xiao Bai he had seen in the pond, inspiring Xiao Bai so that they could escape. Afterwards, they go to the owner of the Baoqing workshop and trade to find out another way to escape. Before the deal is finished, the Bull's Head Gang arrives and the Master of the Green Treasure Workshop is overwhelmed and finally uses the Pond to kill the henchmen of the Bull's Head Gang, telling Xiao Qing the secret and sending her to Xiao Bai reincarnated.
